I recently sold my 1950’s ranch style home and made a big jump! Did I buy another house? No, not quite yet. Did I move into a small apartment? Nope – not that either! I moved into a 100-year-old loft in downtown Fort Worth and I LOVE it. The style is so different than what I’m used to, and I couldn’t be more excited about the change.
With so many drastic architectural differences between the two spaces— going from a 1950’s traditional ranch to a 1910 urban loft— I needed to do some major updating of my furniture and decor. For this new design, I really wanted to merge the urban loft feel with a touch of that Texas rustic vibe. When choosing my pieces, I was very particular in not going too modern or too rustic; I needed a perfect balance, otherwise the design simply wouldn’t work.

For this makeover, I chose pieces with clean lines and reflective surfaces and juxtaposed them with a few natural pieces like a cowhide rug and sheep skin pillows and throws.

I wanted to keep the look rather neutral, so I kept the color scheme simple: black, white and brown with a few touches of red for that pop of color.

One of my favorite pieces in this room has to be Hayneedle’s exclusive Belham Living Hampton Console Table. I love this piece so much because it’s so versatile in just about any design. It has a traditional feel, yet it fits effortlessly into this modern design. I also love that it can be used for so many different purposes. You can use it for an occasional table, bookshelf, entry table or even a TV stand. I’ve owned this piece for about three years and I’ve actually used it in many of these scenarios.

So what do you think about my rustic modern loft? Is it too rustic, too modern, or just the right mix?
